Phoenix, AZ – 3 Dead After Wrong-Way Crash on I-10 at Riggs Rd
Phoenix, AZ (February 16, 2020) – A wrong-way driver and two others have died following a crash on Interstate 10 near Riggs Road on Sunday morning, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.
Officers from the Phoenix Police Department said that troopers responded to the area just before 3:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a wrong-way driver traveling west in the eastbound lanes of I-10. DPS spokesperson Martin Sotelo said that a three-car crash involving the wrong-way driver was reported a short time later on I-10 near Riggs Road. The wrong-way driver, a 71-year-old man, was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Two passengers in the car hit by the wrong-way driver were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger in the car were seriously injured and taken to a hospital, said Sotelo.
The driver and passenger of the third car involved were treated at the scene, according to Sotelo.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
