Phoenix, AZ (December 20, 2020) – A man and a woman have both died and their child passenger was seriously hurt after a multi-vehicle crash that occurred in Phoenix early Sunday morning.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Andy Williams says that the crash happened around 4:00 a.m. near 32nd Street and Broadway Road. Investigators say that a Toyota Scion was driving southbound on 32nd Street when it crashed into a Kia Optima exiting eastbound Interstate 10.

Per a report from Williams, the man and the woman in the Kia Optima were both pronounced dead on the scene. A 4-year-old girl riding inside the same vehicle sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area medical center, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

The man and female in the Toyota Scion also sustained non-life-threatening injuries but were taken to a nearby hospital.

Williams said that the driver of the Toyota Scion may have been impaired at the time of the accident, though the crash is still under investigation.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the deceased victim. Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of a full recovery.

Fatal Car Accidents in Arizona

12/20 Phoenix, AZ - Two Killed & Three Injured in Two-Car Crash at 32nd St & Broadway RdOver the last several years, Arizona had one of the highest rates of multi-vehicle crashes in the nation, according to the Governor’s Highway Safety Association. In fact, Arizona had one of the highest fatality rates in the country as a result of multi-car crashes in 2016 alone, going on to record several hundred deaths by the end of the year.

By the end of each calendar year for the past decade, almost 1,000 fatalities have been seen statewide as a result of these serious car accidents. It’s clear that when it comes to these crashes, victims and their families are paying a steep price as a result of other drivers’ negligence.

Whether it’s painful long-term injuries and trauma or even emotional distress and financial insecurity that may last for years to come, wrecks result in tragic consequences for both victims and their families. Occasionally, fatal accidents leave victims’ grieving families to pick up the pieces in the aftermath. Thankfully, those affected can seek help from a Phoenix personal injury lawyer, especially if they’ve been involved in an accident that occurred as a result of the negligent actions of another driver.
