Tucson, AZ (December 25, 2020) – Officers have released further details after a car crash involving four vehicles shut down the multiple westbound lanes of Interstate 10 near Picacho and Eloy and eventually closed the entire highway on Thursday evening.

The four-vehicle crash occurred near Eloy around 8:00 p.m. and left one child dead. Multiple people sustained injuries, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Information released by TPD officers notes that a man driving a car with a woman and two children crossed over from the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 to the westbound lanes and crashed with three cars at milepost 211, located between Eloy and Picacho.

All four people in the car that crossed over were taken to an area medical center, where one of the children riding in the vehicle died. Multiple people in the other cars were also taken to the hospital with various injuries, though their current conditions are known.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
