Glendale, AZ – Deadly Wrong-Way Crash on L-101 at Union Hills Dr
Glendale, AZ (July 31, 2019) – The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating a deadly accident on Loop 101 in Glendale near Union Hills.
According to officials, the wrong-way crash occurred on Tuesday, July 30th, just before 11:00 p.m. The two-vehicle collision involved a wrong-way driver on L-101 at Union Hills Drive. The Arizona Department of Public Safety says a Chevrolet Malibu was reportedly traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of L-101, also known as the Agua Fria Freeway, before it hit a Nissan sedan.
The driver of the Nissan, 20-year-old Laiquan Lemon, of Goodyear, died in the accident. The suspected wrong-way driver, identified as a 22-year-old Phoenix woman, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities on the scene say that a third vehicle was sideswiped by the wrong-way driver but left the scene after speaking with investigators.
The L-101 freeway at 75th Avenue was closed for several hours, into early Wednesday morning, but has since reopened.
