Chandler, AZ – Multi-Car Crash Causes Fire & Serious Burn Injury at Alma School Rd
Chandler, AZ (October 25, 2019) – A two-car collision at a Chandler gas station ignited a large fire and burned a woman on Thursday.
According to officials, the crash occurred at the AM/PM convenience store and gas station just off of Alma School Road and West Chandler Boulevard.
The incident happened at 12:50 p.m., and Chandler Police officials say that Clemente Torres, who was driving a blue Mustang, pulled up to the pump and paid for gas but realized he was on the wrong side. Investigators say that he got upset at that time, got back in his car and hit the gas pedal, causing him to spin out. He then hit a Hyundai and a gas pump, igniting it.
A 77-year-old woman next to the Hyundai was reportedly pumping gas at the time and got caught in the fire. Detectives say Torres tried to put the fire out with water and an extinguisher but wasn’t successful. Torres then ran from the scene but was eventually caught and arrested by police.
The woman who was burned was transported to a hospital, and her condition is unknown.
