Black Canyon City, AZ – UPDATE: Details Released in Wrong-Way Crash on I-17
Black Canyon City, AZ (November 24, 2019) – A wrong-way driver caused a serious crash that resulted in several injuries on Interstate 17 Sunday night near Black Canyon City.
According to officials from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the wrong-way crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-17 near the Bumble Bee Road exit. DPS officials say a pickup truck was driving southbound in the northbound lanes for about two miles before crashing into another vehicle near Bumble Bee Road.
The high-speed impact caused severe damage to both vehicles involved, and two people were rescued from one of the vehicles. One person was trapped in the second vehicle and also had to be rescued from the wreckage. Fire rescue officials say multiple people were taken to area hospitals with very serious injuries. DPS added that impairment is believed to be involved, though Interstate 17 was closed for several hours while DPS investigated.
