Chandler, AZ – UPDATE: Cesar Limon Arrested After Wreck at Kyrene Rd
Chandler, AZ (November 27, 2019) – Chandler police have arrested a man that they say was behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle that rammed a police patrol car and injured two police officers.
The accident occurred on Sunday evening near Kyrene Road and Chandler Boulevard. Patrol officers had been sent to that location after they got a report about a man slumped over the steering wheel of a running vehicle. Officers then discovered that the vehicle in question, a white 2017 Subaru, had been reported stolen earlier in the day. Police say they found 25-year-old Cesar Limon of Phoenix asleep behind the wheel of the running car.
Moments later, Limon woke up, placed the stolen car in drive, accelerated, and struck a parked car. This pinned an officer between the Subaru’s open driver’s side door and the parked car, and when a second officer attempted to grab Limon and pull him from the vehicle, he accelerated a second time and crashed into a patrol car.
After a brief struggle, Limon was taken into custody, police said. The two officers were treated for their injuries and released from the hospital. Limon was also treated at the hospital for shock and drug-related illness, released the next day and then booked into jail.
He faces multiple felony charges, including theft, resisting arrest, assault on a police officer, and possession of narcotic drugs.
Our thoughts are with the injured officers and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
