Phoenix, AZ – UPDATE: Fatality Reported in Multi-Car Crash on I-10 at Casa Blanca
Phoenix, AZ (December 1, 2019) – A deadly crash closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 10, just south of the Valley, near Casa Blanca Road and resulted in serious injuries.
Department of Public Safety officials said that at least one person died in the multi-car accident. Officers from the Phoenix Police Department added that the crash occurred around 11:25 a.m. on Sunday. Officials have not said how many vehicles were involved but did confirm that a horse trailer lost its cargo in the collision. The horse was corralled eventually, though several secondary accidents happened as a result of the initial wreck and caused the roadway to be shut down.
Motorists were advised to postpone travel or seek detours as heavy delays were anticipated. In addition to the reported fatality, police say that several people were injured and at least one victim was transported to the hospital by Phoenix paramedics.
Arizona Department of Transportation crews were on the scene, directing traffic to the westbound shoulder and clearing wreckage. Authorities are still investigating the crash at this time.
