Phoenix, AZ (December 26, 2019) – The driver of an SUV has died after colliding with a semi-truck early on Thursday morning.

According to officers from the Phoenix Police Department, a 2008 Infinity QX5 was traveling northbound on 27th Avenue, just north of I-10, when it collided with a 2005 Freightliner tractor-trailer. The driver of the truck was exiting a parking lot on the east side of the road to travel southbound on 27th Avenue.

The driver of the Infiniti, 32-year-old Jairo Quinonez, was pronounced dead on the scene. The 45-year-old driver of the semi-truck remained on scene and was evaluated for impairment. The truck driver was found not to be impaired and was treated for minor injuries by Phoenix EMTs.

Authorities say that speed may have been a factor in this collision but that the investigation is ongoing to determine which driver was at fault.
