Tucson, AZ – Geoffrey Velez Hit & Killed in Pedestrian Crash at La Cholla Blvd
Tucson, AZ (January 2, 2020) – A man was struck and killed on Wednesday in an intersection on Tucson’s northwest side, and authorities say they are investigating whether the driver in the accident was impaired.
Geoffrey Velez, 20, was walking along North La Cholla Boulevard, just south of North Fountains Avenue, around 6:15 a.m. when he was struck by a car. Tucson EMTs arrived at the scene shortly after the crash occurred, but Velez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputy James Allerton, a spokesman with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, said that the driver, Maurice Williams, 30, was determined to be impaired and manslaughter is among the charges he could face.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME, an anonymous tipster line.
