Laveen, AZ – Josafath Rubio-Hernandez ID’d in Wrong-Way Crash on L-202
Laveen, AZ (January 9, 2020) – Officials from the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) have identified a driver who was killed in a wrong-way crash on the new South Mountain Loop 202 freeway early Saturday morning.
Officers say that the victim was Josafath Rubio-Hernandez, 31, of Laveen. Just before 3:00 a.m. on South Mountain Loop 202 near Ray Road on Saturday, Hernandez collided with a commercial vehicle transporting automobiles near Elliot Road. DPS says there were no passengers in the wrong-way driver’s vehicle, and the driver of the semi sustained minor injuries in the crash.
DPS is investigating if Hernandez was impaired at the time of the crash and has not released further details.
