Benson, AZ – Police Sergeant Killed in Fatal Aircraft Crash


Benson, AZ (September 5, 2019) – Police said that yesterday morning, one person was killed in a fatal aircraft crash.

The man has since been identified as Timothy Froebe, who was a sergeant with the Tucson Police Department for 24 years. He was piloting the aircraft while he was off duty.

Around 8 a.m., the Benson Police Department was called to the scene of the accident near the Benson Municipal Airport. When they arrived and inspected the wreckage, they pronounced Froebe dead at the scene.

Witnesses said it sounded like the aircraft was having mechanical issues before it went down. They heard the throttle going up and down before the crash.

The accident has been handed over to both the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
