Buckeye, AZ – DPS Trooper Hospitalized After Two-Car Crash on SR 85 at I-10
Buckeye, AZ (November 17, 2020) – An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper has been hospitalized after a serious crash on State Route 85 near Interstate 10 in Buckeye on Monday.
Per reports from the Buckeye Police Department, the crash happened around 6:00 p.m. on Monday evening and occurred just south of the I-10. DPS said that troopers were assisting with traffic control in the area after a separate two-vehicle accident. Police were helping move crash vehicles when the driver of a blue Ford F-150 tried to pass traffic on the left. At that time, the truck driver slammed into a DPS patrol vehicle with a trooper inside.
The vehicle was in the median and its emergency lights were on at the time of the crash. Both the trooper and the truck driver were taken to the hospital with serious injuries via ambulance but both should survive, DPS said.
Investigators are looking into if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash but have not released further details at this time.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families. We hope for a full recovery.
