Buckeye, AZ – UPDATE: Further Details Released in Work Accident at Lewis Prison
Buckeye, AZ (December 3, 2019) – Further details have been released after three correctional officers were injured after inspecting an inmate’s cell at Lewis Prison last month, just outside Phoenix.
According to a department spokesman, investigators are still sorting out how the three officers were injured but said that Lewis Prison has had past issues with broken locks and officers suffering unexpected injuries.
Following the scandal over broken cell locks and the three officers’ illnesses, a new whistleblower inside the Arizona Department of Corrections claims the prison administration is still hiding problems of failing doors, falsified reports from maintenance crews, and health and safety issues.
Between the initial report and the newest whistleblower report, Lewis prison workers and department administrators have relied on using padlocks on dysfunctional doors as a stop-gap measure. Authorities are still investigating the accidents at Lewis Prison at this time.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
Injurious Work Accidents in Arizona
On job sites across the state, injuries can be common, especially in construction zones, commercials buildings and beyond. Workers in these areas often operate heavy equipment and machinery or deal with corrosive chemicals, which can occasionally be faulty or outdated and cause injury. Furthermore, workers can be exposed to chemicals or dangerous materials without their full consent or knowledge.
After a work accident, victims and families are often left with financial difficulties and emotional trauma. Employers may attempt to cover up the incident or avoid paying a victim’s fair compensation after an accident on the job site, particularly in cases where employers are at fault for the incident. If you have suffered in a work accident as a result of an employer’s negligence, you should contact a personal injury attorney to review your options.
