Buckeye, AZ – UPDATE: Jorge Campos Arrested After Fatal Truck Crash on SR 85
Buckeye, AZ (November 30, 2020) – A semi-truck driver has been arrested after he caused an accident that killed a Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office detention officer.
Officers with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office indicated that 62-year-old Jorge Campos did not attempt to slow down his truck and crashed into Justin Folsome’s vehicle on November 24. The accident killed the MCSO officer and occurred on State Route 85 at MC85 in Buckeye.
Campos told police that he was having problems with his truck and that he was traveling to California to have the issue fixed. Authorities added that Campos claimed he could not stop and that he may have blacked out due to high blood sugar.
Campos had a suspended license as a result of a failure to appear for a previous citation and is now being charged with one count of manslaughter and four counts of aggravated assault.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time, and Campos’ trucking company was not listed.
