Chandler, AZ – Two Killed & One Injured in Two-Car Crash on L-202 at Kyrene Rd

Chandler, AZ (October 31, 2020) – Two people were killed and a trooper was seriously injured after a wreck that closed the westbound lanes of the Loop 202 Santan Freeway in Chandler on Saturday afternoon.

Per reports from the Chandler Police Department and the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a passenger vehicle ran into an Arizona DPS trooper car that had been parked on the side of the highway. The trooper was investigating a separate collision in the area.

As the trooper was sitting in his vehicle, the white passenger car traveling westbound entered the shoulder, rear-ending the trooper’s vehicle.

The male driver and female passenger were both killed in the crash, according to rescue authorities who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident occurred. The trooper was transported to a local hospital via ambulance with serious injuries but not life-threatening injuries.

The crash shut down part of the freeway and caused a massive backup, with all traffic exiting at Kyrene Road. Officers are still investigating the accident at this time and have not released further details about those involved.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the deceased victims. Our thoughts are with the injured officer and their family in hopes of a full recovery.

Fatal Car Accidents in Arizona

10.31 Chandler, AZ - Two Killed & One Injured in Two-Car Crash on L-202 at Kyrene RdAccording to authorities with the Department of Public Safety, there were thousands of accidents last year, hundreds of which resulted in deaths in Arizona.  Furthermore, Arizona has some of the most dangerous roads in the entire country, including several of the freeway loops and Interstate 10, which stretches from Phoenix to California.
