Gilbert, AZ (February 8, 2020) – A 17-year-old boy has died and three others suffered minor injuries after being involved in a serious crash in Gilbert on Friday afternoon.

According to officers from the Gilbert Police Department, the two-car crash happened just before 3:00 p.m. near Pecos Road and Recker Road, just a short distance from Higley High School. Gilbert Police Department Public Information Officer Brenda Carrasco said that the accident is still being investigated by a traffic reconstruction team.

A teen boy, the driver of a blue car involved in the accident that hit a pole, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died. There were no passengers in that car. The three injured individuals were in the other car involved in the accident.

Police say there’s no indication of impairment or speeding. 

The accident remains under investigation at this time.
