Glendale, AZ – Officer Struck & Injured at 81st & Glendale Aves

Glendale, AZ (October 13, 2019) – An officer from the Glendale Police Department was struck and injured in a crash that occurred after a deadly shooting early Sunday morning.

As officers responded to the scene of a shooting and stopped to apprehend suspects, a Glendale officer approaching the suspects’ SUV was struck by a vehicle fleeing the area. The accident occurred near 81st Avenue and Glendale Avenue, near the area where the shooting happened.

The officer who was struck by the vehicle was transported to an area hospital via ambulance with minor injuries, according to a statement from Officer Tiffany Ngalula. Ngalula, a public information officer for the Glendale Police Department, said that police pursued and stopped the suspect vehicle, but the driver and one of the passengers in the vehicle allegedly ran from the car. Police were able to take the other vehicle passengers into custody but are continuing to search for the hit-and-run driver and passenger.

Officer Ngalula said that authorities are reaching out to hospitals throughout the Valley to see if any individuals with gunshot injuries from the crime scene arrived for treatment. They say that the hit-and-run suspects may have been shot before fleeing the scene.

At this time, police are still investigating the shooting and the officer-involved crash, as well as searching for the suspects who hit the officer. The identity of the officer has not been released.

Our thoughts are extended to the injured officer in hopes of a full recovery.
