Goodyear, AZ – Injuries Reported in Hit-and-Run Crash at 75th Ave & Bell Rd
Goodyear, AZ (November 12, 2020) – Officers with the Goodyear Police Department arrested a man suspected of carjacking multiple vehicles across the West Valley and leading law enforcement on a car chase that ended in an injury crash on Tuesday evening, November 9th.
Quilon Lopez, 19, was apprehended around 10:00 p.m. in Glendale. Per reports from the police department, the incident began in Goodyear hours earlier, when police were alerted about a stolen vehicle. Court documents said the man, who police alleged was Lopez, demanded that the carjacking victims leave their cellphones in the car before he drove away. After tracking their phone using the “Find My iPhone” feature and found it located near Interstate 10 and Loop 303.
A Maricopa County sheriff’s deputy then tracked down one of the stolen vehicles with the help of the “Find My iPhone” feature, found the vehicle located near Interstate 10 and Loop 303, and pursued the suspect.
Lopez fled from law enforcement, court documents said. Goodyear police, Glendale police, officials with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office all pursued him.
The chase ended with Lopez allegedly ramming into another vehicle around 75th Avenue and Bell Road, injuring that driver and disabling their car. Local EMTs responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area medical center. Their current condition is unknown.
Lopez fled that crash but was apprehended shortly after by a police K-9 unit. He was booked into a Maricopa County jail, though the accident remains under investigation at this time.
