Mesa, AZ – Two Severely Injured in Rollover Crash on US 60 at Greenfield Rd
Mesa, AZ (August 11, 2020) – Two people were left critically injured after an accident occurred on US 60 eastbound near Greenfield Road on Tuesday.
Per officers with the Mesa Police Department, the accident occurred after the driver of a black Cadillac SUV rear-ended a fully marked Mesa police cruiser. Authorities say that the impact of the crash caused the SUV to roll and that it forced that police department officer’s car all the way on the right shoulder. Both vehicles sustained severe damage, according to Sgt. Kameron Lee of the Department of Public Safety.
Fire rescue crews had to extract the officer from his car and said that he was in and out of consciousness.
Authorities say the wreck occurred just before 11:00 a.m. and occurred shortly after the Arizona Department of Public Safety received a call about a ladder in the center lane of US 60 eastbound near Higley Road. The officer involved in the accident came across the debris before the troopers and stopped in the travel lane to remove the debris from the road. At that time, the black Cadillac Escalade rear-ended that officer’s patrol car.
The Mesa police officer, who is said to be in his 30s, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The woman who was driving the SUV is also in serious condition at a local medical center.
DPS is taking over the investigation and has not released further details about the crash.
