Peoria, AZ – Teenager Hit & Killed by Van at 83rd Ave & Cholla St
Peoria, AZ (November 15, 2019) – Authorities from the Peoria Police Department are investigating a pedestrian accident that left a 14-year-old boy dead on Friday morning.
The crash happened in front of Peoria High School at 83rd Avenue and Cholla Street around 8:00 a.m. According to Officer Brandon Sheffert of the Peoria Police Department, the freshman student was crossing in the crosswalk with the lights flashing when he was struck by a van traveling northbound. Officer Sheffert said that the driver remained on the scene to cooperate with authorities.
Local EMTs arrived at the scene, and the 14-year-old was taken to the hospital with severe injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The investigation closed 83rd Avenue between Cactus Road and Grand Avenue for several hours while police investigated, though they say that impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Police are trying to determine if speed and distraction might have played a role and are still investigating at this time.
