Peoria, AZ – Toddler in Serious Condition After Drowning at 91st Ave & Yucca St

Peoria, AZ (September 20, 2020) – A toddler in Peoria was rushed to a hospital on Sunday morning after being found in a local swimming pool.

Paramedics from the Peoria Fire and Medical Department were called to a home near 91st Avenue and Yucca Street around 11:30 a.m. for the drowning call. By the time emergency units arrived on the scene, witnesses had pulled the boy from the pool.

Rescue officials said that the child was out of the water and breathing on his own by the time they arrived. Police officers didn’t say whether the boy’s family owned the pool, and they have not released further details about the incident. Local EMTs transported the child to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

It’s unclear how the drowning occurred or how long the boy was in the pool, but the accident remains under investigation at this time.

Our thoughts are with the victim and his family in hopes of a full recovery.

Drowning Accidents in Arizona

Peoria, AZ - Toddler in Serious Condition After Drowning at 91st Ave & Yucca StPer reports from first responders and local authorities in Arizona, Phoenix ranks number one in the country for both pool ownership and residential drowning accidents. Because those who reside close to water or have access to pools are more likely to experience drowning, Arizona sees several injuries or deaths each year due to drowning incidents.

Plus, drowning is the leading cause of accidental death among toddlers and preschool-aged children across the county. In fact, data show that nearly 400 children under the age of 15 drown every year in America. Because pool ownership is so prevalent in the greater Phoenix area, these numbers are even grimmer in Arizona.
