Phoenix, AZ (April 27, 2020) – Two Phoenix police officers were injured when a suspected drunk driver crashed into their vehicle late Sunday evening.

According to Sgt. Mercedes Fortune with the Phoenix Police Department, the two officers were driving westbound on McDowell Road near 45th Avenue around 10:30 p.m. when a vehicle heading eastbound crossed into oncoming traffic. At that time, the vehicle crashed into the police car.

The two officers were taken to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Fortune said the suspect driver, whose name has not been released, showed signs of impairment and was arrested for DUI. The accident remains under investigation.
