Phoenix, AZ – Abraham Torres Charged in Injury Crash at Camelback Rd
Phoenix, AZ (October 9, 2019) – A local man has been charged after allegedly hitting another driver while street racing.
According to court records, Abraham Villegas Torres, 20, was charged in Maricopa County Superior Court last week for street racing, endangerment, reckless driving, and criminal damage.
Phoenix police officers say that Torres was street racing near 35th Avenue and Camelback Road on August 4 when he struck a woman’s SUV from behind, injuring her. Surveillance video allegedly shows Torres street racing with another car before the crash occurred. The other street racing suspect managed to swerve around the victim’s SUV.
However, Torres crashed his Honda Civic directly into the back of the victim’s SUV, per investigators. Court records show that while the Honda Civic was insured, Torres was explicitly excluded as a covered driver. The victim was reportedly not seriously injured in the crash but was transported to the hospital via ambulance after the accident occurred.
The accident remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and her family at this time. We hope for her full recovery.
