Phoenix, AZ – Cesar Santos Hit & Killed in Pedestrian Accident on 75th Ave
Phoenix, AZ (January 10, 2021) – A man has died after being hit by a car near 75th Avenue and Indian School Road on Saturday evening.
Per reports from Phoenix Police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune, officers located a man, later identified as 31-year-old Cesar Santos, in the roadway with life-threatening injuries. When the Phoenix Fire Department arrived on the scene, they pronounced Santos dead.
Witnesses told officers that a vehicle was traveling about 70 miles per hour heading northbound on 75th Avenue when the driver hit a pedestrian crossing the road. Officers later found evidence that the vehicle involved was street racing. They located the driver a short time later and identified them as 20-year-old Alejandro Bautisa. He was booked for manslaughter.
Police were still investigating the pedestrian accident the next morning when a separate crash occurred at the crime scene. A suspected drunk driver crashed through the traffic barricades, injuring two officers. Those officers were taken to a hospital via ambulance but are expected to recover. The driver was arrested for DUI but has not been identified.
