Phoenix, AZ (January 29, 2021) – Officers with the Phoenix Police Department are investigating a deadly pedestrian accident that occurred on Friday evening.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune says the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening. Initial reports state that a man died after being hit by a car as he was crossing a street near Seventh Avenue and Southern Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found the man, later identified as 39-year-old Erandi Jimenez, lying in the roadway. His injuries were life-threatening and he was transported to an area medical center via ambulance. Medical authorities pronounced him dead at the hospital.

Police say the driver immediately left the scene. While there were not many witnesses, investigators said the vehicle that hit Jimenez was a gray or silver car. The investigation continues at this time.
