Phoenix, AZ – Fatality & Two Injuries Reported in Rollover Crash on SR 143
Phoenix, AZ (May 5, 2020) – One person is dead and two others are seriously injured after an armored truck rolled over and caught fire on State Route 143 near the Loop 202 on Monday afternoon.
According to Trooper Kameron Lee with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the truck went left off the road into a concrete barrier. The truck then continued down an embankment and rolled onto its top in a cement drainage ditch, subsequently caught fire.
Lee said that bystanders at the scene were able to pull the driver out of the vehicle before it caught fire; however, the passenger in the rear compartment of the armored vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
Phoenix firefighters responded to extinguish the fire, and local EMTs transported two other victims to the hospital in critical condition. SR-143 was shut down near L-202 westbound for the investigation, but the roadway has since reopened.
Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
Fatal Car Crashes in Arizona
Authorities from the Arizona Department of Transportation say that there were more than 130,000 accidents in 2018. Unfortunately, numerous injuries and fatalities resulted from these serious accidents. In fact, at least a quarter of these accidents involved two or more seriously injured victims requiring medical care or hospitalization, and many of those victims eventually succumbed to their injuries.
Victims of injurious car crashes often have to cope with both physical and emotional trauma. Whether they’re documenting their injuries, negotiating with insurance companies, or taking time from work, victims pay the price when it comes to injury accidents. But victims and their families can seek help from an injury lawyer, especially if they’ve been involved in an accident that’s caused by the negligent actions of another driver.
