Phoenix, AZ (May 1, 2020) – A Phoenix man is dead after being hit by an SUV driver that fled from the scene of the accident late Thursday night.

According to Sgt. Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix Police Department, 73-year-old Gerald Vanacore was crossing the road mid-block near Seventh Street and Broadway Road just before midnight when he was hit by a dark-colored maroon SUV.

The man was taken to a hospital via ambulance and later succumbed to his injuries, and the driver of the SUV fled the scene.
