Phoenix, AZ – Injuries Reported in Multi-Car Crash on I-10 at 43rd Ave

Phoenix, AZ (January 16, 2021) – Investigators shut down part of the Interstate 10 freeway in the West Valley on Saturday evening after a crash involving injuries.

Per reports from the Phoenix Police Department, the collision happened right before 7:45 p.m. on the westbound side of the highway, near the 43rd Avenue exit. Officials with the Arizona Department of Public Safety said there was at least one person injured but didn’t note the extent of their injuries. There has been no word on how many drivers were involved.

The eastbound lanes were closed for about an hour while troopers photographed the scene and collected evidence. The accident remains under investigation at this time, and the identities of those involved have not been released.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.

Highway Car Accidents in Arizona

In fact, nearly one thousand motor vehicle crashes ended in death in 2018 alone. Another 37,000 injury accidents on major highways and thoroughfares, resulting in more than 50,000 injuries.

Furthermore, a recent report showed that Arizona has some of the deadliest roads in the country.

A report released last week by TRIP, a national transportation research nonprofit, stated that there are 1.09 deaths for every 100 million vehicle miles traveled in Arizona. During the past four years, 642 people were killed in accidents on interstates in Arizona. Plus, authorities say that at least 43% of those killed were involved in crashes where speeding was a factor.
