Phoenix, AZ – Man Killed & Woman Injured in Pedestrian Crash at 35th Ave

Phoenix, AZ (July 21, 2020) – A man has died and a woman was seriously injured after a car crashed into a Phoenix bus stop on Tuesday.

Per reports from officers with the Phoenix Police Department, the car in question was traveling southbound on 35th Avenue from Dunlap Avenue at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. At that point, local officials said that the driver lost control of their vehicle. A spokeswoman with the Phoenix Police Department, Sgt. Mercedes Fortune, said that the driver of the vehicle swerved to avoid a car turning from a private driveway when they lost control of their sedan.

A man standing at the bus stop at the time of the accident was killed in the crash, Fortune said. Phoenix EMTs were dispatched to the scene shortly after the wreck occurred and transported a woman, who was also struck by the car, to an area hospital. That woman remains in extremely critical condition, per statements from Phoenix rescue units. Another man at the bus stop sustained minor injuries in the collision.

Officials said the driver was not hurt and stayed at the scene to assist the investigation. Police do not believe the driver was impaired, though the investigation into the wreck continues.

Fortune said traffic was restricted near 35th Avenue and Dunlap Avenue for most of Tuesday afternoon while police conducted their investigation.

Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim. Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their families in hopes of a fast recovery.
