Phoenix, AZ – Mario Hernandez Struck & Killed in Bicycle Accident at 15th Ave & Southern Ave
Phoenix, AZ (January 16, 2020) – A hit-and-run crash on Thursday evening has left one man dead.
Phoenix police said a bicyclist was struck by a car in the area of 15th Avenue and Southern Avenue around 5:30 p.m.
Detective Luis Samudio said the victim, identified as 25-year-old Mario Hernandez, was in the two-way left-turn lane when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound. That vehicle then fled the scene, leaving Hernandez with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities say that the suspect vehicle is a white SUV that was found damaged and leaking fluid at a parking lot not far from the scene of the crash. Police have not been able to confirm who was driving the SUV, but the investigation is ongoing.
