Phoenix, AZ – Motorcyclist Killed in Multi-Car Accident on L-101 at 51st Ave

Phoenix, AZ (November 12, 2019) – A motorcyclist died early Tuesday after an accident on Loop 101, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Trooper Jonathan Montes from the Phoenix Police Department said that the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on Loop 101 east of 51st Avenue when he was hit. As he was riding in the eastbound lanes, he was rear-ended and ejected.

After the rider was ejected, he was hit by another vehicle as well as a commercial vehicle, Montes said. The man was taken to a hospital via ambulance in critical condition but later died from his injuries.

The other drivers were not injured and stayed on the scene to cooperate with authorities. Montes said no criminal charges were pending, though the accident remains under investigation at this time. The freeway’s right and center lanes were blocked around 5:15 a.m., causing backups that remained throughout the morning rush hour as police cleared the scene and collected witness statements.

Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
