Phoenix, AZ – One Dead and One Critically Injured After Motorcycle Accident at 24th Drive

Phoenix, AZ (June 28, 2019) – On June 26th, late Wednesday night, a motorcycle accident killed one and seriously injured another person.

One motorcycle rider is dead and another is critically injured after the hit-and-run auto accident. Authorities investigated the crash scene for several hours, and the intersection of 24th Drive and Thunderbird Road was closed for most of the night and into Thursday morning.

According to officials, a 58-year-old man and 50-year-old woman were on a motorcycle, preparing to make a left turn, when they failed to yield to oncoming traffic as the traffic light turned yellow. The motorcyclists were struck by a 2005 Toyota Tacoma headed eastbound around 8:47 p.m. at the intersection.

The pickup stopped and observed the collision before leaving the area eastbound.

Both motorcycle riders were taken to a hospital where the driver, later identified as 58-year-old James Hawking, died. The passenger, a 50-year-old woman, is still in critical condition.

Officers obtained license plate information from the pickup truck and made contact with the vehicle owner, who told police that his vehicle had been stolen.

The crash remains under investigation.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the victims of this motorcycle accident and their families.
