Phoenix, AZ – Pedestrians Killed in Chain-Reaction Crash on McDowell Road
Phoenix, AZ (June 18, 2019) – Police confirmed that two pedestrians were killed in a chain-reaction crash involving a wide array of vehicles that took place at 52nd Street and McDowell Road. The accident took place last night, June 17th, according to Phoenix Police.
Officers responded to the scene of the crash around 8:30 p.m. when they were headed to an unrelated crash in the area. They found that a Toyota Camry had been headed east on McDowell and turned left in front of a Mercedes, causing the two to collide in the intersection.
The Mercedes spun out of control and drove up onto a sidewalk, where it then struck two pedestrians. They were both transported to the hospital in critical condition and, while there, they were pronounced deceased.
Two people in the Mercedes were taken to the hospital with injuries but they are expected to make full recoveries. The driver of the Toyota did not have injuries and stayed at the scene of the accident.
Police have since identified the two victims who lost their lives as 46-year-old Deqa Osman and 36-year-old Jane Hurley.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing at this time.
