Phoenix, AZ – Simone Lewis Struck & Killed at 40th St & McDowell Rd

Phoenix, AZ (September 9, 2019) – Phoenix police officials have released further details after a crash left one woman dead late Saturday night.

Just after 11:00 p.m., Simone Denise Regina Lewis, 18, was hit by a Chevrolet truck at the intersection of 40th Street and McDowell Road. Phoenix fire rescue and paramedics were on the scene and transported Lewis to a local hospital via ambulance, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 21-year-old man, witnessed Lewis crossing the roadway prior to the collision but was unable to stop before hitting her. He remained on the scene.

Investigators with the Phoenix Police Department say that the man was impaired and cited for DUI, though excessive speed was not a factor in the crash.

We would like to offer our condolences to the family of Simone Denise Regina Lewis at this time.

Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Arizona

Arizona roads are among the deadliest in the nation for pedestrians, with the country’s second-highest rate of pedestrian fatalities per capita in the first half of 2018. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association’s preliminary data, the Grand Canyon State had already reported nearly 130 pedestrian deaths from January through June.

From medical costs and long-term health issues to even job loss for victims, pedestrian accidents can wreak havoc on victims and their families. Those affected are especially vulnerable when these incidents occur due to the negligent actions of other drivers.
