Phoenix, AZ – UPDATE: Cory Vargo Charged in Injurious 3-Car Wreck at Oak St
Phoenix, AZ (September 23, 2019) – Cory Vargo has been arrested after a crash on Sunday afternoon that left a pregnant woman seriously injured.
According to Sgt. Maggie Cox of the Phoenix Police Department, the incident occurred near the intersection of 24th Street and Oak Street. Cory Vargo, 31, was driving northbound on 24th Street near Oak Street when he ran a red light. Vargo then collided with a vehicle driven by a 30-year-old man with a 27-year-old pregnant passenger.
Both occupants were ejected from their vehicle. The man suffered only minor injuries and the 27-year-old woman was rushed to an area hospital by Phoenix emergency medical technicians, where she delivered her baby safely. She suffered serious injuries, though authorities say they aren’t life-threatening.
After police responded to the wreck, they observed Vargo showing signs of impairment and found that he was in possession of marijuana. He was booked into 4th Avenue jail for drug possession and may be facing additional charges pending toxicology results.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Injurious Wrecks in Arizona
Injurious crashes are an unfortunate fact of life in Arizona, particularly those that happen as a consequence of the negligence of another driver. Victims may have to deal with insurance companies, pay for expensive medical treatment, and cope with lost wages or even job loss after an injurious accident. Those affected can seek help from a personal injury lawyer after they’re involved in an accident that occurs through no fault of their own.
