Phoenix, AZ – UPDATE: Fatality & Serious Injury Reported in Crash at I-17 & Van Buren St
Phoenix, AZ (November 10, 2019) – Officers from the Phoenix Police Department have released further details about a fatal crash that occurred on Thursday night.
According to information from officers, a person is dead and another is injured after a crash near Van Buren Street and Interstate 17. Police say that a 31-year-old woman was traveling eastbound on Van Buren Street around 10:30 p.m. at a high speed when her vehicle left the roadway and continued east, colliding with a raised median, a sign, and a large metal pole.
The woman’s 2019 Kia Optima then struck a Chevrolet Tahoe and a Jaguar, both stopped at a red light at the intersection of the I-17 overpass. Officials say the woman operating the Kia, who was not identified by police, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 29-year-old male passenger in the Kia was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The other two drivers, who were also not identified, sustained minor injuries in the accident. Police say speed and impairment appear to be factors for the driver of the Kia, though the investigation is ongoing.
We would like to offer our condolences to the family of the deceased victim. Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of a full recovery.
Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crashes in Arizona
According to data released by the Arizona Department of Public Safety, nearly 130,000 crashes occurred in Arizona last year alone. And more than 11,000 of these accidents involved at least two drivers and multiple injuries or even fatalities.
When multiple victims sustain injuries in an accident, they may have to deal with other drivers’ insurance companies, physical distress, emotional trauma, and long-term financial difficulties. Occasionally, victims succumb to their injuries from these accidents, leaving grieving families to pick up the pieces. Due to the negligence of other drivers, families are forced to cope with tragic consequences, all while mourning their lost loved ones.
However, the victims and their families affected by these wrecks can seek help from an injury attorney. A skilled attorney can help victims seek justice and the fair compensation they deserve from suffering in an accident that occurred through no fault of their own.
