Phoenix, AZ – Wilder Diaz-Gomez & Yahir Uriel-Diaz Killed in Car Crash at Indian School Rd

Phoenix, AZ (December 26, 2020) – Officers with the Phoenix Police Department say that a driver accused of causing a deadly accident in Phoenix on Saturday has been arrested for manslaughter.

Phoenix police say that 23-year-old Elidio Saenz was speeding while driving his Chrysler 300 westbound on Indian School Road on Saturday morning. He then collided with a Toyota Scion, whose driver was attempting to turn left onto 31st Avenue.

Court records indicate that investigators determined that Saenz’s car was traveling 96 miles per hour before the crash. He did attempt to slow down by pressing his brakes before the crash, causing his speed to drop to 78 miles per hour at the time of impact. Saenz told officers that he was in a rush to get home when the crash happened.

The two people traveling in the Toyota Scion have now been identified. The 27-year-old driver, Wilder Uriel Diaz-Gomez, and his 18-year-old passenger, Yahir Uriel-Diaz, were both taken to the hospital via ambulance in extremely critical condition. The victims died at the hospital.

Saenz was also taken to a hospital with serious injuries but he was released on Sunday afternoon. After his release, he was arrested by detectives for two counts of manslaughter.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families of Wilder Uriel Diaz-Gomez and Yahir Uriel-Diaz.
