Queen Creek, AZ (February 19, 2020) – A drunk driver and his girlfriend crossed three lanes of traffic before colliding head-on with another vehicle in Queen Creek on Sunday. Court documents show that the driver in question has now been arrested.

According to local officers, Matthew Borbon, 23, was driving southbound on Signal Butte Road in Queen Creek with his girlfriend Madison Brewer, 22, when he veered left and eventually crossed three lanes of traffic before colliding with another vehicle head-on.

Both Borbon and Brewer were transported to the Chandler Regional Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries. Borbon suffered severe injuries including a compound fracture in his left ankle and bruises and cuts on his hands and head. Medical professionals said that Brewer had two broken lumbar vertebrae, four broken ribs, a broken sternum, and other injuries, and has been transferred to the ICU for surgery.

The victim in the second vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated at the hospital.

Hospital toxicology reports showed that Borbon had a BAC of 0.21, well over the legal limit, and also had marijuana in his system. Borbon was arrested at the hospital and charged with aggravated assault, endangerment, aggravated DUI, and drug possession.

The crash remains under investigation, and the other victim’s information has not been released.
