Rio Rico, AZ (October 1, 2019) – Early Sunday around 5:30 a.m., police responded to the scene of a fatal car crash that took place on I-19 Frontage Road in Rio Rico.

According to police, 58-year-old Tomas Lopez had been traveling in a Ford Ranger when he was suddenly involved in a three-vehicle collision in the northbound lanes of the Interstate. He was killed in the accident. 

The other individuals involved in the accident were identified as a 22-year-old man from Nogales in a Dodge Caravan, a 27-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman in a Chevrolet Cruze.

Police sent out an early morning alert stating that the northbound lanes in that area would be closed due to the accident. They said that this was the third fatal crash in the county in 2019 so far.

At this time, the investigation into the accident is ongoing.
