Scottsdale, AZ – Boy Hospitalized After Drowning Accident at McDowell Rd

Scottsdale, AZ (July 28, 2020) – A 4-year-old boy has been hospitalized after being found at the bottom of a backyard pool on Tuesday evening in the Scottsdale area.

Per reports from officers with the Scottsdale Police Department, the drowning accident happened near Scottsdale Road and McDowell Road. Officers on the scene said that the boy’s mother discovered the victim and pulled her son out of the water while other individuals were outside swimming. After pulling her son from the water, she began to perform CPR on the boy, who then started to cough and open his eyes.

Paramedics arrived shortly after the accident occurred, treated the boy and took over life-saving measures at the scene, and then rushed the child to Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Fire rescue authorities who were also dispatched to the scene of the incident say that the boy remains in very serious condition at the hospital.

It’s unclear how long the boy was in the water, though an investigation into the drowning by the Scottsdale Police Department is underway.

Our thoughts go out to the child and their family in hopes of a full recovery.

Drowning Accidents in Arizona

Scottsdale, AZ - Boy Hospitalized After Drowning Accident at McDowell RdAccording to reports from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the greater Phoenix area ranks number one in the country when it comes to private pools per capita and is also at the top of the list for drowning accidents. Due to the warm, dry weather in Arizona, most people have their own pools. And statistically, those who live near water or have exposure to water elements are more likely to experience drowning resulting in injury or death.

Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death among toddlers and preschool-aged children. In fact, statistics show that nearly 400 children under the age of 15 drown each year across the country. Furthermore, the drowning death rate per 100,000 residents was 1.5 in Arizona. Throughout the country, Arizona ranks seventh for drowning deaths. And about one in five who die from drowning across the state are children aged 14 and younger.

It’s clear that drowning accidents can result in tragic, unforeseen circumstances for victims and their families. But those affected by these unfortunate incidents can contact a Phoenix personal injury lawyer, especially when they’ve been involved in drowning accidents due to the negligent actions of other parties.
