Scottsdale, AZ – Multi-Vehicle Crash After Carjacking on 68th Street
Scottsdale, AZ (August 20, 2019) – A multi-vehicle crash took place following a carjacking and pursuit around the area of a Walmart on 68th Street in Scottsdale.
The accident, according to police, took place on Friday afternoon after police were called to the scene of a shoplifting-in-progress. When police followed the vehicle, they attempted to stop the suspect but found an occupant had tried to push someone out of the moving vehicle.
The officer tried to pull the party over but the vehicle would not stop. Another officer then saw the vehicle elsewhere and terminated the pursuit due to erratic driving.
Later, police received calls of a report about a multi-vehicle crash on 68th Street and McDowell Road involving the vehicle from the shoplifting. Witnesses said that a tan pickup truck had been involved and was driving near the roadway at dangerous speeds before the accident occurred.
Police were able to determine that the truck ran a red light at the intersection and struck a silver SUV. Three other vehicles were struck due to the initial accident.
Police said that a man and woman ran from the pickup truck but were caught by police. The driver of the SUV that was struck was taken to the hospital with serious and life-threatening injuries.
The road was closed down for several hours while an investigation took place. It continues at this time.
