Tempe, AZ – Three Injured After Hit-and-Run Crash at Dobson Rd
Tempe, AZ (May 15, 2020) – A carjacking on Friday in Tempe ended in Mesa with a hit-and-run crash and at least three injured victims.
Rodrigo Aguilar, 44, ordered a man out of a car at gunpoint then drove off, collided with another vehicle, and led officers on a chase before crashing into oncoming traffic in Tempe. Tempe police Detective Greg Bacon said officers were called about a carjacking near Priest Drive and Baseline Road around 12:30 p.m.
Bacon said the initial carjacking victim was sitting in a Ford Fusion when Aguilar stole the vehicle at gunpoint. Following the car theft, police received a report of a hit-and-run accident involving the same Ford. Bacon said police began a pursuit, which ended in Aguilar crossing a median and colliding with other vehicles heading northbound before stopping completely near Guadalupe Road and Dobson Road.
Aguilar ran from the scene before being apprehended by officers. During the carjacking, crash, and arrest, one officer suffered minor injuries and two people in the other vehicles involved in the accident sustained injuries. They were both transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
The accident remains under investigation at this time.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a speedy recovery.
