Tucson, AZ – UPDATE: Albert Batt Killed in Multi-Car Crash at Speedway Blvd
Tucson, AZ (January 17, 2020) – A 21-year-old man was killed in a crash that caused the shutdown of a freeway interchange near downtown Tucson on Friday.
Authorities from the Arizona Department of Public Safety identified the victim as Albert Batt. He was a passenger in a car that struck a light pole after trying to avoid a traffic stop. DPS officials said the driver was observed driving the wrong way on the Interstate-10 frontage road at Congress Street around 2:10 a.m. The trooper tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver turned his vehicle around and fled while speeding.
Batt was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe impairment is a factor in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
