Yuma, AZ – Rosa Covarrubias Killed in Head-on Collision at S Fortuna Rd & Hwy 95
Yuma, AZ (December 11, 2020) – New details have been released after a deadly crash closed U.S. Highway 95 for several hours on Friday morning.
Per reports from the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO), the crash happened just after 6:30 a.m. on Friday morning in the 9500 block of South Fortuna Road in the area where it meets the highway.
YCSO officials say that a Nissan pickup was driving northbound on Fortuna when it veered across the center line, hitting a Chrysler sedan head-on.
Paramedics transported the driver of the pickup truck to Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC) with serious but non-critical injuries. The driver of the Chrysler, 36-year-old Rosa Covarrubias of Yuma, did not survive the accident. Emergency medical technicians were dispatched shortly after the crash occurred but pronounced her dead at the scene.
YCSO says it does not appear impairment was a factor in the crash, but they’re still investigating. Deputies have asked that anyone with information on this case to call 928-783-4427 or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
