Glendale, AZ – Toddler Killed & Woman Injured in Bicycle Accident on 70th Ave
Glendale, AZ (May 26, 2020) – A 3-year-old boy died after he was struck by a vehicle while riding in a child bike trailer near 70th Avenue and Union Hills Drive in Glendale last week.
On May 21, the boy’s parents were riding bicycles with their two children and traveling northbound on the east side of 70th Avenue. At that time, a driver traveling southbound on 70th Avenue ran over the child in his bike trailer around 1:00 p.m. According to a release from Glendale Police Department spokesman Sgt. Randy Stewart, the boy’s mother was also struck by the vehicle, which continued driving eastbound on Villa Theresa Drive after hitting both victims.
A nurse who was nearby heard the accident and arrived on the scene to perform CPR on the toddler. Patrol officers also performed CPR on the child when they arrived, but the boy was later pronounced dead after being airlifted to a local hospital.
The vehicle suspected to have hit the boy and his mother was believed to be at a home near the scene of the accident, and two suspects have been identified and interviewed.
No names have been released, however, and the investigation is ongoing.
