Phoenix, AZ – Man Hit & Injured in Pedestrian Crash at 35th Ave
Phoenix, AZ (August 14, 2020) – A man is in the hospital in serious condition after a van hit him while he was walking with his bike in Phoenix on Thursday morning.
According to reports from the scene by the Phoenix Police Department, the accident happened around 5:15 a.m. on 35th Avenue, just north of Glendale Avenue. Police say that the van was driving southbound on 35th Avenue when it hit the man. Though it’s unclear how the accident occurred, news footage from the scene showed the bike wedged underneath the van.
Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said that the man suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital via ambulance shortly after the crash occurred.
She also added that the driver of the van stayed at the scene as required by law and was cooperating with officers. Fortune did not identify either the pedestrian or the driver of the van, but she did say that the intersection was restricted while police conducted their investigation.
The investigation is ongoing at this time, and no further details on the cause of the crash have been revealed.
Our thoughts are extended to the injured victim and his family in hopes of a full recovery.
