Phoenix, AZ – Toddler in Critical Condition After Drowning at 29th Ave
Phoenix, AZ (September 6, 2020) – A 1-year-old boy has been hospitalized in critical condition after being pulled from a pool in Phoenix on Saturday evening.
Per reports from officers with the Phoenix Police Department, as well as local EMTs, the accident happened in the area of 29th Avenue and Durango Street. Authorities with Phoenix Fire Rescue said the boy was found in the pool by bystanders. Crews were dispatched to the scene after the child was discovered, but rescue officials said that the child was out of the water and breathing on his own by the time they arrived, though he was described as very lethargic.
Police officers didn’t say whether the boy’s family owned the pool, and they have not released further details about the incident. It’s unclear how the drowning occurred or how long the boy was in the pool, but the accident remains under investigation at this time.
Our thoughts are with the victim and his family in hopes of a full recovery.
Drowning Accidents in Arizona
Per reports from first responders and local authorities in Arizona, Phoenix is number one in the country for both pool ownership and residential drowning accidents. Because those who reside close to water or have access to pools are more likely to experience drowning, Arizona sees several injuries or deaths each year due to drowning incidents.
Plus, drowning is the leading cause of accidental death among toddlers and preschool-aged children across the county. In fact, data show that nearly 400 children under the age of 15 drown every year in America. Because pool ownership is so prevalent in the greater Phoenix area, these numbers are even grimmer in Arizona.
And these drowning incidents can mean tragic, unforeseen circumstances for victims and their families. Victims and their families can suffer for years after the initial drowning incident due to emotional trauma and even long-term physical effects. But those affected by these unfortunate incidents can contact a Phoenix personal injury lawyer, especially when they’ve been involved in drowning accidents due to the negligent actions of other parties.
