Mesa, AZ – UPDATE: Todd Welliver Killed, Other Victims Injured in Truck Crash on Isleta Ave
Mesa, AZ (January 1, 2021) – A man died and several others were injured when a semi-truck crashed into a Mesa home on Thursday night, New Year’s Eve.
Per reports from the Mesa Police Department, the truck was exiting U.S. 60 and traveling eastbound on the Crismon Road off-ramp around 7:00 p.m. when it failed to stop at Crismon Road. At that point, the truck drove into a house, said Nik Rasheta, a spokesperson for the Mesa Police Department.
There were 10 people inside the house, which is located on Isleta Avenue in east Mesa.
One man inside the house, identified as 50-year-old Todd Welliver, died in the crash. Previous news reports had misidentified the man as Todd Weber.
No one else in the house was seriously injured but the number of victims who sustained injuries and were treated at the scene or transported to an area hospital is unclear. The driver of the truck had minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
The Mesa Police Department’s preliminary investigation suggests the driver may have had a medical emergency prior to the collision, Rasheta said.
The accident remains under investigation at this time.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Todd Weber. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families. We hope for their quick recovery.
