Phoenix, AZ – Child Hospitalized After Drowning at Encanto Blvd & 7th Ave

Phoenix, AZ (August 16, 2020) – A 6-year-old boy was transported to the hospital after a near-drowning near 7th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard on Saturday night.

Phoenix fire rescue units say that the boy hit his head, fell into the pool, and then was under the water for about 45 seconds. EMT crews were dispatched to the scene and arrived shortly after the drowning occurred. Upon arrival, crews say that the boy was out of the water and moaning.

Crews then administered treatment to the boy at the scene and transported him to a pediatric hospital for further evaluation.

The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time. Officers are still investigating the accident and have not provided specific details on the owner of the pool or the other individuals at the scene. It’s also unclear whether the pool was located at a residential home or a commercial building.

Our thoughts go out to the child and their family in hopes of a full recovery.

Drowning Accidents in Arizona

Phoenix, AZ - Child Hospitalized After Drowning at Encanto Blvd & 7th AveAccording to reports from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the greater Phoenix area ranks number one in the country when it comes to private pools per capita and is also at the top of the list for drowning accidents. Due to the warm, dry weather in Arizona, most people have their own pools. And statistically, those who live near water or have exposure to water elements are more likely to experience drowning resulting in injury or death.

Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death among toddlers and preschool-aged children. In fact, statistics show that nearly 400 children under the age of 15 drown each year across the country. Furthermore, the drowning death rate per 100,000 residents was 1.5 in Arizona. Throughout the country, Arizona ranks seventh for drowning deaths. And about one in five who die from drowning across the state are children aged 14 and younger.

It’s clear that drowning accidents can result in tragic, unforeseen circumstances for victims and their families. But those affected by these unfortunate incidents can contact a Phoenix personal injury lawyer, especially when they’ve been involved in drowning accidents due to the negligent actions of other parties.
